| Our compassion for Tamires |
| We heard about Compassion through our church.
What got me was what appears to be one of their main slogans, "...and whoever welcomes a little child
like this in My name welcomes Me." - Matthew 18:5. I read into Compassion and found that I absolutely loved what they did for these kids with the little money they ask for.
For $32 a month, you can choose a little boy or girl and what region of the world they come from or just let Compassion choose
for you. We requested a young girl from South America and have received Tamires as our sponsored child.
We received a package with the photo on the right of Tamires and a ton of information about her that
really helps us feel as though we know her. For that $32 a month, we are providing her with food,
education, Christian bible study and health care. We can write to her and send her photographs or
pictures the kids have drawn for her. She has the opportunity to write us also. If there is a language
barrier, Compassion will assist in the translation to get the message across. On this page I'll provide
some of the info we receive about her. It's very rewarding thinking of everything she is getting for
only $32 a month. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, please click on the banner above or

| Community and Project Information |
Tamires lives on the plains of Granja Portugal, home to approximately 53,000 residents. Typical houses are constructed of cement floors, brick walls and tile roofs. The population is comprised of Mestizos and the most commonly spoken language is Portuguese.
The regional diet consists of beans, chicken, bread, eggs, potatoes and rice. Common health problems in this area include viruses, respiratory illnesses and worms. Half of the adults in Granja Portugal are unemployed but some work as dressmakers, mechanics, trash collectors or in domestic services and earn the equivalent of $75 a month. This community needs schools, vocational training centers, hospitals and law enforcement.
Our sponsorship allows the staff of Projeto Sitio Betesda to provide Tamires with bible teaching, medical care, counseling, field trips, recreational activities and educational classes. The center staff will also provide vocational training and educational lectures for the parents or guardians of Tamires. |
